USAID freeze leaves large gaps across a range of humanitarian funding

Imagine a group responsible for $13.80 billion in humanitarian efforts in 2024 freezing almost over night… that’s happening right now after Trump’s “Executive Order on Reevaluating and Realigning United States Foreign Aid”

Here’s a quick graph I made showing USAIDs contributions as part of international aid budgets in 2024. It’s clear to see the huge holes this leaves in global aid funding.

Millions will be at risk because of this sudden move and hundreds of internal contractors have already been put on leave.

Here’s a list of all the contractors likely affected with outstanding USAID awards in 2023-2024. There’s 2473 contractors on there.

For much deeper analysis, I highly recommend this worrying but hugely insightful blog series on the detailed ramifications of the freeze as this ruling is playing out.
